Bio

Eric Simmons is a first time author of children's books.

I’m a world traveler with roots in the East coast but now lives on the West coast. I developed my passion for writing after taking a course years ago.

I am a father of a toddler and enjoy reading to him. I have a great career in aviation and see writing as a second passion. I had great success as a mobile app developer being featured on USA Today.

I went to college at Southern Illinois University after serving a brief period in military. Many would describe me as a workaholic. I enjoy spending leisure time with family doing outdoor activities.

Why I decide to self publish?

I decided to self publish so I could have creative control over the process. I know it’s harder to become successful as an indie author but I have overcome challenges like this before. 

How did you come up with the title of your book?

I came up with the title “Flying With Kindness” because I wanted to write about a travel adventure, and inspire kindness in children. I wanted to keep the title short, and easy to remember.

What is the story about?

Sibling rivalry, a cranky little boy, and a frustrated mother could be any parent typical day. “Flying With Kindness”, is a deeply moving story and travel adventure to the Grand Canyon. The story is about five year old Basil with a strong personality. Basil is the protagonist character. Basil’s parents are trying to teach him the importance of kindness. He thinks kindness is too much work. By chance, Basil’s family meets an old lady, an encounter which set up a chain of events and teachable moments in kindness. 

Is this a fictional book? This is a fictional children’s picture book for age 2-8.

How long did it take for me to complete my manuscript? It took me two year from the initial concept of the story and 80 revisions for me to finally be happy with my manuscript.

Who are my favorite children’s writers? 

I like author Doreen Cronin of “Duck for President”,  because it’s a fun way to teach kids about democracy. Another favorite book of mind is “Sid the Seed”, by author Daniel Pagan. It’s a fantastic book to teach kids not to be afraid of the unknown. It’s a great motivational book for kids.

Synopsis

It’s a book about a boy name Basil and the normal sibling rivalry with his younger sister, Ava. In addition, kindness doesn’t seem to come natural for Basil. He perceives it as too much work. Basil’s parents struggle to encourage him to show kindness with no prevail.

By chance, Basil’s family meets an old lady, an encounter which set up a chain of events and teachable moments in kindness. When Basil loses his favorite teddy bear on his flight, kindness is returned to him in an unexpected way.
